๐ค Why I Hate Social Media (But Still Use It)
Hey there! Today I want to share something a little more personal:
Why I really donโt like social media โ and why I still haven't quit it completely.

๐ฑ Addicted Without Realizing
At first, I thought social media was totally fine. I used it like everyone else โ scrolling, liking, reacting.
But over time, I realized something scary:
I was addicted.
When I tried to quit one app, I ended up opening another. And the cycle just kept repeating.
๐ The Endless Scroll
Sometimes Iโd stick to one platform โ but still, Iโd scroll for hours even when I had important things to do.
It felt like my brain was hijacked.
So yeah, please donโt try this โ itโs a trap.
๐ Comparing Myself With Others
One of the worst parts?
When I followed my friends, at first it was okay. But then they started posting achievements, or vacation photos...
And I started comparing myself to them ๐
Even though I knew I had my own progress, I couldnโt help but feel behind.
๐ฅ This Video Changed My View
Then one day, I saw this YouTube video:
๐บ Menghapus INSTAGRAM selama 30 hari (in Indonesian)
It really hit me. I realized I had FOMO (Fear of Missing Out).
I was afraid of missing updates from one of my friend.
That fear kept me from deleting social media.
๐ง My Turning Point
But eventually, I had enough.
I deleted a few of my social media app โ and guess what?
- My screen time went down (not a lot, but itโs progress).
- I stopped comparing myself to others.
- I muted WhatsApp statuses too โ because honestly, I donโt want to see every update from every contact.
Now, I still use social media โ but with limits:
- Only in the browser (no apps).
- I log out when I feel addicted.
- I share only what's important, not everything.
๐ The Good Side of Social Media
Even though Iโve had a love-hate relationship with social media, I have to admit โ it's not all bad. When used mindfully, social media can be a powerful and even positive tool.
Here are some benefits Iโve noticed:
- ๐ง Learn new things, from language learning to coding, productivity tips, and more.
- ๐จ Share your creativity, whether itโs writing, drawing, photography, or music.
- ๐ฐ Stay informed about global news, trends, and helpful content.
- ๐ฌ Join communities that match your interests, like dev forums or language groups.
So yes, social media has value. But like most tools, itโs all about how you use it. Set boundaries, stay intentional, and donโt let it use you.
๐ฌ Final Thoughts
I know this post might not relate to everyone. And thatโs okay.
But if someday someone finds this and feels the same way, I hope it inspires them to take control of their digital life.
Thanks for reading. ๐
Take care โ and remember:
Youโre doing just fine.
